Today’s Problem – College –Complex nos.

Find x and y if (2x – 4) + 5i = 3 + (6y – 1) i

Answer: x = 7/2 and y = 1

Explanation:
The real parts are 2x – 4 and 3. The imaginary parts are 5 and 6y – 1

2x – 4 = 3
2x = 3 + 4
2x = 7
x = 7/2

and

5 = 6y – 1
5+1 = 6y
6 = 6y
y = 1
